A Red Letter Day for Far Horizons
October 24, 2011

Here come the Deacocks - A message from Far Horizons founder, Martin Wright

Monday 3rd October was my 79th birthday and with it came the sobering realisation that next year I will become an octogenarian, and that maybe the time has come for me to enjoy a less stressful lifestyle.

So it is with great pleasure that I announce today that Auriel and I have been joined by our friends and longtime colleagues, Nick and Beant Deacock.

Based in Sydney, both Nick and Beant are well-known to many Far Horizons aficionados, having escorted several Far Horizons tours over a number of years. For a period in the 1990s Nick worked for us full-time as our National Sales Manager and was largely instrumental in introducing Far Horizons tours to the Eastern States. Since then he has held several positions in the travel industry, most recently as Manager at Garuda Orient Holidays. Beant also has a strong background in travel, having worked in her homeland, India, with the prestigious tour company, Abercrombie & Kent.

Our association with the Deacock family goes back even further, to Nick’s father Warwick, founder of the pioneering tour company Ausventure and acknowledged doyen of the adventure travel industry in Australia.

Nick and Beant are now responsible for all the administration and day-to-day running of Far Horizons operations from their home/office in Cammeray, Sydney. We will all ensure that this operational transition is seamless and it will be business as usual for our customers.

This will leave me time to devote all my energies to the planning of future tours and to the introduction of new destinations to our increasing number of regular clients who look to us to provide off-the-beaten-track tours in the highest degree of comfort. It will also relieve Auriel of her long-term involvement in matters financial and administrative. (She claims that she came in to the office to help out for half a day and has stayed ever since).

This marks an important and exciting new development in the future of Far Horizons as it enters its 37th year, and augurs well for the continued success of our company to which we have devoted so much time, passion and energy.
