The Oberammergau Passion Play is a unique religious and dramatic event which takes place every ten years in this picturesque village in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps in southern Germany.
Accommodation and tickets for the Passion Play are always in great demand, and are sold out years beforehand.
'Far Horizons' involvement with the Oberamergau Passion Play goes back to 1958, when Managing Director Martin Wright first visited Oberammergau to make arrangements for tours from England for the 1960 performances.
As in previous years, we shall operate a fully-escorted tour including a visit to the Passion Play. For 2010 we shall combine the play with a coach tour through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Herzegovina to Dubrovnik, with the option of taking a 6-day extension to the Holy Land.
ITINERARY
Day 1 Wednesday: By air to Bangkok - Afternoon Thai Airways flight from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth to Bangkok. Overnight at Suvarnabhumi Airport Novotel.
Day 2 Thursday: By air and road to Murnau - Midday Thai Airways flight to Munich [Germany]. One hour drive to Murnau. Stay for four nights at Hotel Alpenhof.
Day 3 Friday: In Murnau - Morning at leisure. Afternoon excursion to Lake Staffelsee for a boat ride
Day 4 Saturday: In Murnau - Full day excursion to Linderhof and Neuschwanstein
Day 5 Sunday: In Murnau - excursion to Oberammergau - Morning drive to Oberammergau. The Passion Play performance commences at 14.30 and terminates at 22.30 with a three-hour break for dinner. After the performance we return to Murnau.
Day 6 Monday: By road to Salzburg - Morning drive to Innsbruck [Austria] (visit). Afternoon drive to Salzburg. Two nights at Sacher Hotel.
Day 7 Tuesday: In Salzburg - Morning and afternoon sightseeing.
Day 8 Wednesday: By road to Bled - Morning drive to Villach (visit). Afternoon drive to Bled [Slovenia]. Three nights at Grand Hotel Toplice.
Day 9 Thursday: In Bled - Morning at leisure. Afternoon lake cruise on Lake Bled.
Day 10 Friday: In Bled - Further sightseeing.
Day 11 Saturday: By road to Ljubljana - Morning drive to Ljubljana. Afternoon sightseeing. Overnight at Hotel Lev.
Day 12 Sunday: By road to Zagreb - Morning drive via Novo Mesto (visit) and Samobar [Croatia] (visit) to Zagreb. Two nights at Hotel Regent Esplanade.
Day 13 Monday: In Zagreb - Morning and afternoon sightseeing.
Day 14 Tuesday: By road to Plitvice Lakes - Morning drive to Plitvice Lakes National Park. Afternoon walking tour. Overnight at Hotel Jezero.
Day 15 Wednesday: By road to Zadar - Morning drive to Zadar. Afternoon sightseeing. Overnight at Hotel President.
Day 16 Thursday: By road to Split - Morning drive to Sibenik (visit). Afternoon drive via Trogir (visit) to Split. Three nights at Hotel President.
Day 17 Friday: In Split - Morning sightseeing. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 18 Saturday: In Split - Morning excursion to Salona.
Day 19 Sunday: By ferry to Hvar - Morning ferry crossing to Hvar Island. Afternoon at leisure. Three nights at Hotel Riva Yacht Harbour.
Day 20 Monday: In Hvar - Sightseeing on Hvar Island.
Day 21 Tuesday: In Hvar - Further sightseeing and leisure on Hvar Island.
Day 22 Wednesday: By road to Dubrovnik - Morning drive to Mostar [Herzegovina] (visit). Afternoon drive to Dubrovnik [Croatia]. Three nights at Hilton Imperial Hotel.
Day 23 Thursday: In Dubrovnik - Morning and afternoon sightseeing.
Day 24 Friday: In Dubrovnik - Excursion by boat to Lopud Island.
Day 25 Saturday: By air to Bangkok - Morning at leisure in Dubrovnik. Afternoon Croatia Airlines flight to Frankfurt* with connecting Thai Airways flight to Bangkok. Overnight in flight.
Day 26 Sunday: By air to Australia - Afternoon arrival in Bangkok. Connecting Thai Airways flights to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Overnight in flight. (Passengers for Perth will stay overnight at the Suvarnabhumi Airport Novotel and take the Thai Airways flight on Monday morning)
Day 27 Monday 4 October: Arrive home - Arrival in Australia.
*Note: At Frankfurt Airport the Far Horizons tour escort will continue to Tel Aviv with those passengers taking the Holy Land extension. Passengers returning to Australia will be escorted to the departure gate for their flight via Bangkok to Australia, for which journey they will be unaccompanied.
HOLYLAND EXTENSION
Day 25 Saturday: By air to Tel Aviv - Morning at leisure in Dubrovnik. Afternoon flight via Frankfurt to Tel Aviv [Israel]. Overnight at the Dan Panorama Hotel.
Day 26 Sunday: By road to Jerusalem - Morning visit to Jaffa, then drive to Jerusalem. Stay three nights at the American Colony Hotel.
Day 27 Monday: In Jerusalem - Sightseeing in Jerusalem and Bethlehem.
Day 28 Tuesday: In Jerusalem - Further sightseeing in Jerusalem.
Day 29 Wednesday: By road to Tiberias - Morning drive to Qumran (visit) and Jericho for a cable car ride to the Mount of Temptation. Afternoon drive to Tiberias. Stay for two nights at Rimonim Galei Kinnereth Hotel.
Day 30 Thursday: In Tiberias - Morning excursion to Nazareth. Afternoon sightseeing and boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.
Day 31 Friday: By road & air to Bangkok - Morning drive to Tel Aviv. Afternoon flight via Frankfurt to Bangkok. Overnight in flight
Day 32 Saturday: By air to Australia - Afternoon arrival in Bangkok. Connecting flights to Australia. Overnight in flight.
Day 33 Sunday 10 October: Arrive home - Morning arrival in Australia.
