Departing on 27th December 2011 this new 40-day tour travels through Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Cape Verde islands, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau
More information

The first two weeks of West Africa’s Hidden Gems are spent travelling through Nigeria - and for people with limited time at their disposal we offer the opportunity to take this as a short-duration 17-day tour.
More Information

The Horn of Africa - Omo Option
Our pioneering tour to this remote region departing on 22 January is proving to be very popular and we already have sufficient passengers to justify its operation.
As several of our regular clients who are taking this tour have already visited Ethiopia’s Historic Route (Lalibela, Gondar and Lake Tana) on a previous tour, we have arranged for their benefit an alternative tour to the country’s south - the fascinating Omo Valley, a remote area inhabited by more than twenty distinctive tribes.

About Far Horizons

Martin and Auriel Wright established Far Horizons in 1976.

Noting a lack of truly unique overseas travel opportunities from Australia the Wright’s drew on their extensive experience in the travel industry to create Far Horizons. Shunning the conventional holiday destination for exotic and unique locations, Far Horizons tours have been to all continents and most countries throughout the world.

Far Horizons groups never exceed 16 people to ensure a personalised experience.

In Safe Hands

Experienced and proven escorts that stay with the groups for the duration of the trip. We have a small team of dedicated escorts who have a strong sense of adventure and an ability to think on their feet when unforeseen circumstances happen. The guides will take care of all porterage, checking-in at hotels and airports, handling of border formalities, tipping, reconfirmation of flights and any other details that often stress an independent traveller.

In addition to an Australian tour escort who will accompany you throughout the entire journey, for each stage of the tour we employ experienced local bi-lingual guide/lecturers who have an intimate knowledge of their homeland and who will be able and eager to answer any questions you may have.

The tour itineraries are meticulously planned to provide the right mix of travel, leisure and sightseeing with client comfort a foremost consideration. Early flights and overnight flights are avoided where possible and overland journeys include sufficient stops and air-conditioned vehicles where possible. There will however always be times when unconventional forms of travel such as river boats, ferries or four wheel drives will be needed to be used in the country side.

Best Accommodation

Far Horizons provides the best accommodation in the world's most exotic and stimulating regions. Wherever possible hotels are chosen for their character and ambience in addition to their high standards of comfort and cuisine. In some places we visit, the best available is the only available, but even the remotest regions have perfectly acceptable standards.

Fully Inclusive

All tours are as fully inclusive as possible, i.e. all transportation, accommodation, sightseeing, meals, cultural events and gratuities. You need budget only for personal spending money.

About Martin Wright

Martin Wright opened his first travel agency in the West Midlands of England in 1955 and has been providing personalised tours to exotic locations ever since.

A trip from his homeland England to France, Switzerland and Italy at the age of 16 sealed Martin’s fate as a lifetime traveller. Sharing a modified 29-seat coach with his parents and relying in part on his classroom French, the calamities (which included filling the petrol powered coach with diesel) and the excitement of foreign lands left a lasting impression on him.

Martin’s career has spanned more than fifty years in which time he has been to the most amusing, dangerous, cold, hot, sparse and populated countries in the world and almost everyone in-between. From bureaucratic bungles and dodgy hospitals to diva tantrums and royal hosts, Martin has seen it all and documented the most entertaining of these stories in Been There, Done That – offbeat tales of a world traveller. Click here for an order form

Martin now lives in the Barossa Valley in South Australia with his wife Auriel.
